General Information

About this website

This website offers safety courses and tests for everyone working in the department of attosecond physics of the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ). You will also find answers to frequently asked questions regarding safety topics, emergency help and important contact information. The other variations of this website are addressed to people working either in the faculty of physics of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) at Garching research campus, at the LMU Laboratory for Extreme Photonics (LEX Photonics) and the Centre for Advanced Laser Applications (CALA).

Working at the Max Planck Institute as a student or an employee offers a great variety of tasks and responsibilities. To make our work and our surroundings (office or laboratory) safe and user-friendly, the MPQ is well organised. The department of attosecond physics has local safety representatives for each safety area who serve as your first contact person if you have questions beyond the scope of this site. You should never hesitate to contact them.

In general, your work should be as safe and comfortable as possible. In order to achieve this, there are strict instructions for you to be aware of and follow. Therefore you must pass all the safety courses relating to work safety, laser safety and radiation safety that apply to you, before you start working at the MPQ (regardless of whether only in an office, or also in the laboratory). The tests have to be repeated annually and you will receive a reminder email four weeks before your test becomes invalid.
